Last week I got a call from the Folly Beach Wahine Classic Dragon Boat Team captain to fill a seat for the dragon boat festival this past weekend. Nobody on the boat had ever paddled a dragon boat and had only 2-hours of practice earlier that week before the races. Long story short, our team won the 1st place gold medal!

49 teams battled it out on the water for the title of Grand Champion and lots of other great prizes and competitive divisions to conquer. Paddlers raised money to benefit Hollings Cancer Center survivorship programs. Charleston is already home to one of the first all-cancer survivor dragon boat club, Dragon Boat Charleston, also a Hollings Cancer Center survivorship program, which has recorded numerous accolades during its highly successful program.
